Travel to the third largest island in the world and experience the lush rainforest, scenic views and the kind locals. On Borneo you will experience an amazing wildlife; the most concentrated area is around Sandakan and the Kinabatangan River. Borneo is the only place in the world where you will find the proboscis monkey, a funny looking monkey that makes a very distinctive sound. Other than the proboscis monkey, you will get the chance to see macaque monkeys, sun bears, crocodiles, hornbills, orang-utans, pygmy elephants, monitor lizards and turtles, among many other animals.
Borneo is more than just a rainforest. If you like the island life, Gaya Island is a really good place to go. It has a 5 star resort, clear blue water, view of Mount Kinabalu and is easy to get to. As mentioned, the wildlife on land is amazing but so is the wildlife under water. Going snorkelling or scuba diving is therefore highly recommended when visiting the islands of Borneo. Turtles can easily be spotted when underwater, but Borneo also has The Turtle Islands where you can experience the conservation project and if you are lucky you will experience the hatching of the baby turtles.
If you want to stay on land Shangri La has a resort just outside of the city Kota Kinabalu. Here you will be staying by the beach but have easy access to explore the things in Kota Kinabalu. You can visit the beautiful City Mosque, tea plantations, Mount Kinabalu and Kinabalu National Park, among many other things.
