Experience the melting pot of many cultures in South Africa. The country offers just about everything for the traveler. You can experience the big city life in Cape Town or Johannesburg, enjoy the many beaches, hiking on the mountains, spot The Big Five on safari and go wine tasting with the most beautiful surroundings.
South Africa is a developing nation. In Cape Town you will experience a beautiful coastal city. You have the V&A Waterfront, the beaches, the main city and in the background you have the stunning Table Mountain. Hiking up Table Mountain is definitely worth the sweat, but as another option, there are also cable cars to the top. To experience some of the history of South Africa you can visit Robben Island where Mandela was an inmate. Here you will get a very interesting tour, conducted by a former inmate and from the island you will have a great view of the city. Not far from Cape Town center, the townships start to pop up. This really shows the difference of class there still is in South Africa. The best and safest way you can experience these townships is to go there on a tour. In the very southern part of Cape Town you will find Boulders Beach. Boulders Beach has a sandy beach and boardwalk but the really special part is the penguin colony that is found there.
Not far from Cape Town you will find Stellenbosch, which is the best place to go wine tasting. There are over 200 wine producers in the valley, so you will have great opportunities to taste a lot of different wines and explore the vineyards. Also close to Cape Town you will find Cape Agulhas, which is the most southern point of Africa and where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet.
When visiting South Africa it is also recommended to go on a Safari. The most famous National Park in South Africa is Kruger. Kruger offers a lot of great resorts/lodges on the border of the park. Here you can take game drives with experienced and knowledgeable rangers and hopefully spot the famous Big Five. Kruger National Park is in the northern part of South Africa, so it is ideal to take the beautiful Garden Route up along the coast from Cape Town and possibly stopping in some of the cities and areas along the way. This could be Jeffrey’s Bay, Port Elizabeth or Durban for example.
