Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain at 5895 metres, rises spectacularly above the grasslands of Tanzania and Kenya. The Machame route, known as the ‘whisky route’ is considered to be one of the most scenic. All treks are accompanied with guides and porters to carry equipment. Its summit is permanently capped with ice and snow, whilst its foothills are covered with lush forest. The mountain is a mecca for trekkers and a number of different routes are available, all of which are challenging because of the altitude.
